There are now eight recorded deaths locally this flu season and 22 cases of people with the flu needing to be hospitalized in the intensive-care unit.
This season’s flu deaths mark a five-year high.
The 2013-14 flu season, however, saw 11 local flu deaths, according to Public Health tracking.
Public Health said the best way to avoid the flu is getting the vaccine, frequent handwashing and steering clear of sick people.
